Show evidence without inventing it

How to describe work you did, add a result only when you have one, and leave out qualifications, systems, and percentages you cannot support.

A duty is not yet a result

Responsible for the phones tells a reader your job included phones. It does not say what happened. Answered the booking line and confirmed the reservations that came in during the shift is still honest, and it is specific. Add a count only if you counted.

If you never measured a percentage, do not borrow one. Reduced complaints by 40% is not a style upgrade. It is a claim. Checked the delivery against the invoice and separated damaged items is a claim you can defend without a calculator.

Systems, tickets, and titles

Name software you have used. If the ad asks for a system you have not opened, say so, and name the one you have used. Listing the requested system so you are not screened out is a false statement, even when you are confident you could learn it.

A qualification, a food-handler card, a trade licence, or a professional registration is either yours or it is not. A friend's certificate number, a course you started, and a course you plan to take are three different facts. Only the one you completed belongs next to the word certified or registered.

Words that overshoot

Led, owned, transformed, and spearheaded are easy to type and hard to explain in an interview. Coordinated, checked, recorded, assisted, and completed are smaller, and they survive the question what did you yourself do?

The vocabulary practice on this site pairs each stronger word with a caution. Use the word if the caution still fits your story. If it does not, keep the plainer verb. A plain true sentence is more useful than a grand one you have to walk back.

What these tools will not do

The CV check looks for skills from our list, for lines that name no outcome, and for vague openers such as helped with or responsible for. It suggests a more precise verb. It does not write a new achievement, and it does not add a number.

The STAR trainer arranges Situation, Task, Action, and Result using the sentences you typed. Empty fields stay empty. If you want a polished paragraph, copy it before you leave the page. Signing in saves it to your account so you can delete or export it later. It is not sent to employers.

Practice

  1. You never measured a percentage. Which line is fair?
  2. The ad names software you have not opened. A colleague uses it. What do you write?
  3. You started a course and have not finished. Which word is wrong?
  4. You answered phones. You did not lead the team. Which verb survives the question what did you yourself do?
  5. Responsible for the phones is already on the CV. What makes it more useful without inventing a result?
  6. What will the CV check on this site not do?
